Date(s) - Monday, September 14
5:30 pm - 11:30 pm
City Council will re-hear the City Manager’s Order to amend the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund to include arts organizations. This order was supposed to have a roll call at the July 27th meeting, however Councilor Denise Simmons chose to use her charter right to table the vote until the next regular City Council meeting. Outside the summer months, this would have been within reason, but since the council is in summer session, the vote has to wait until the next regular meeting which is scheduled for September 14. Here’s the link to the July 27th meeting, minutes, and documentation: http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/Detail_Meeting.aspx?ID=2656
We implore you as arts supporters to use your voice at public comment, which will be at the beginning of the meeting, Sept 14 at 5:30pm. To sign up for public comment, you must do so within 30 minutes of the meeting start (until 6pm), and use the Zoom link to speak. No video will be used.
But what do I say?
Make sure you mention your name and address (if you live in Cambridge), and Cambridge organization affiliation including their address (helpful if you don’t live in Cambridge). Please state you are in support of amending the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund to include arts organizations so that they can get the help they need during this emergency. Many organizations shut down in March and either have opened at limited capacity, or are not opening at all until stage 4. Mention how the arts in Cambridge are important to you, especially during this time.
A “script” will be coming shortly to help you formulate talking points if you need some help identifying them.
